Etimologia

Il nome deriva probabilmente dal mwdggreco tardo mwdwmweaσκὸλοψ, mweqscòlops, cioè mwegspina, aculeo e mwewmwfaδέρος, mwfqdèros, variante di mwfgmwfwδέρμα, mwgadèrma, cioè mwgqpelle, per l'aspetto esteriore di pelle rugosa e spinosa.

Distribuzione

Le cinque specie oggi note di questo genere sono state rinvenute in varie località dell'mwhaAmerica centrale e mwhqmeridionale; due specie sono state reperite anche negli stati più meridionali degli mwhgUSAcite-ref-araneidae-1-0[1].

• mwpgScoloderus nigriceps mwqa(O. P.-Cambridge, 1895) — USA, Messico, Isole Bahama, Cuba, Giamaica
• mwqgScoloderus tuberculifer mwra(O. P.-Cambridge, 1889) — dagli USA all'Argentina

Specie trasferite

• mwsaScoloderus soaresi mwsqmwsgMello-Leitão, 1945; trasferita al genere mwswTestudinaria mwtamwtqTaczanowski, 1879 con l'ex denominazione mwtgTestudinaria soaresi che, a seguito di un lavoro dell'aracnologo mwtwLevi del 2005 è stata posta in sinonimia con Testudinaria quadripunctata mwuqTaczanowski, 1879cite-ref-araneidae-1-2[1].
